Castles of Cork

Ireland was once the scene for many invasions and battles from battles with Vikings to fighting over Clan territory. Fortifications, round towers and Castles would prove to be an essential part for family clans to protect their land from battling enemies.

These fortifications in Ireland date back over 2,000 years and some of these ancient fortifications can still be found standing today.

Thankfully today Cork's Castles serve a far more peaceful purpose:

Blackrock Castle Observatory - offers corporate event planners 21st century technology in a memorable 16th century castle setting. Facilities available for product launches, conferences, film or multimedia screenings, press launches, networking events or photo shoots.

Blarney Castle & Gardens - for over 200 years, world statesmen, literary giants, and legends of the silver screen have joined the millions of pilgrims climbing the steps to kiss the Blarney Stone and gain the gift of eloquence.

Blackwater Castle - unique 12th century castle recently restored and offering exclusive private hire. This 50 acre estate is situated in a stunning location overlooking the forested valley of the River Awbeg and is an ideal multi-purpose venue for a wide variety of events and exhibitions.

Desmond Castle International Museum of Wine - originally built as a Customs house, the castle served as a prison in the 18th century an ordnance store during the Battle of Kinsale (1601) and is now home to the International Museum of Wine.

Mallow Castle - Certain traditions ascribe the building of the original castle to King John or at least to his time. A date is given for this early construction as 1185 A.D.
