Titanic Centenary Commemorations – Cobh County Cork Ireland 2012
In 2012, Cobh, County Cork, Ireland, the last port of call for the Titanic, is planning to host a year-long series of events that will commemorate the centenary of the life of the Titanic and the people associated with her.
The proposed series will consist of many high profile events. These will include a substantial civic ceremony with invited dignitaries and a strong presence from the Armed Forces, maritime activities that will include search and rescue displays, powerboat and international yacht races, an international short-film competition, a number of impressive outdoor concerts and various Titanic themed exhibitions and lectures.
This commemoration is a Cobh Town Council initiative and will be called ‘Titanic 100 Cobh 2012’.
Monthly events will take place in and around Cobh, formerly Queenstown. The ‘Flagship’ week is scheduled from the 9th to the 15th of April 2012, exactly one hundred years on from the Titanic’s maiden voyage. This will attract an international audience. Included in this special week is the commemorative Civic ceremony and the outdoor concerts telling the story of The Titanic, it’s connection with Ireland and it’s impact on the world through various musical genres with performances from local and international artists.
It is anticipated that elements of Titanic100 Cobh 2012 will be televised both nationally and internationally.
Further Information regarding Titanic 100 Cobh 2012 will be released in the coming months.
